Experience

We are a full-time husband and wife team; both partners have over 30 years professional experience in the fields of environment, heritage and community engagement. Most recently in or former careers:

Shirley Muir was LDNPA Northern Ranger Manager from 2004 to 2007, with responsibility for managing the ranger team and volunteers, monitoring the Rights of Way network, management of Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, as well as working in partnership to develop the Bassenthwaite Reflections HLF programme. Previously she was Property Manager in Borrowdale for the National Trust.

Shirley gained a first class BSc (Hons) in Environmental Studies from Sunderland University in 1990 and a MA in Town & Regional Planning from Leeds University in 1996. She has professional qualifications in management, health & safety and project management.

Shirley has worked on behalf of HLF to provide expert advice to HLF case officers on applications; and has mentored the North York Moors National Park Authority and Sustrans in developing and delivering projects.

Dave Muir previously co-ordinated development and delivery of the Cumbria Biodiversity Action Plan and the Cumbria-wide Wealth of Wildlife HLF project for Cumbria Wildlife Trust; and led the development of Windermere Reflections Landscape Partnership HLF application for a partnership led by the Environment Agency.

Dave also has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Studies from Sunderland University in 1990 and completed an Introduction to Project Management with Remarc Professional Development.

We now work together on most projects, though we always identify one person as project manager and acknowledge where each other’s strengths lie. Where complex spreadsheets are required, Shirley steps to the fore, while Dave’s communication skills have been invaluable in leading clients and others through some difficult decisions.
