Yorkshire Dales Woodland Trust

In 2000, the Woodland Trust, leading a partnership of interested organisations, devised a plan for woodlands in the Yorkshire Dales, referred to as the Dales Woods or Yordale Project. The aim was to reduce fragmentation and degeneration of ancient woodlands by ‘buffering’, restoration and extension of these woodlands and by creating new woodlands to link habitats across the area. In 2014, Shirley Muir Associates revisited around 30 sites to evaluate the outcomes of the project and prepared a report for the client on the achievements of this pilot scheme. It is hoped that the lessons learnt will help produce similarly successful projects in the future. Click on the Related Images for a slide show of some of the sites involved.
