Skye Ecomuseum Audience Development and Activity Plans

In 2016 we completed an Audience Development Plan for Staffin Community Trust for an ecomuseum project, Ceumannan II, on the Isle of Skye to support a Round Two HLF application. The project develops the new concept of an outdoor museum; improving access and interpretation at features of archaeological, geological and wildlife interest and promoting the cultural heritage of the area. We carried out interviews and schools’ surveys, arranged focus groups, developed audience profiles, identified barriers and motivations and drew out interpretation themes for Ceumannan II, assessing how they can meet the needs of different audiences. By consulting with audience groups, we tested and refined those themes, providing recommendations for audience engagement.
We were also subsequently asked to prepare an Activity Plan. The documents supported a successful Round Two HLF application and the project is now underway.
